Mercury Retrograde 2021
Published on January 15, 2021
This year, 2021, feels like a year attempting to find its footing, and predictably, Mercury retrograde is there to… complicate things. It was a year of three retrogrades, each with its own distinct flavor of disruption. Let’s dissect them, shall we? 🧐
1st Mercury Retrograde: January 30 – February 20 (Aquarius ♒️)
This one began with a rather abrupt start, immediately following a New Moon in Aquarius. It felt… stark. Aquarius is a sign of innovation and rebellion, but in retrograde, those energies manifested as unexpected disruptions to plans, technological glitches, and a general sense of detachment. It was a time for re-evaluating friendships, questioning group affiliations, and revisiting long-term goals. Many found themselves feeling isolated or misunderstood. It was a rather cold retrograde, emotionally speaking. 🧊
2nd Mercury Retrograde: May 29 – June 22 (Gemini ♊️)
Now this was a particularly… irritating retrograde. Gemini is Mercury’s home sign, so when it goes retrograde there, the effects are amplified. Expect miscommunications, delays, and a frustrating inability to focus. It was a time for revisiting ideas, editing projects, and clarifying intentions. Many found themselves revisiting old conversations or encountering people from their past. It felt like a whirlwind of unfinished business. 🌪️ It was a test of patience, to say the least.
3rd Mercury Retrograde: September 26 – October 22 (Libra ♎️ & Virgo ♍️)
This retrograde began in Libra, the sign of harmony and balance, and then dipped back into Virgo, the sign of detail and analysis. It was a rather complex retrograde. Initially, it brought challenges to relationships, legal matters, and negotiations. Then, as it moved into Virgo, it brought a focus on perfectionism, self-criticism, and meticulous review. It was a time for re-evaluating commitments, refining routines, and addressing unresolved issues. Many found themselves obsessing over details or feeling overwhelmed by tasks. 🧐
The 2021 Mercury Retrograde Theme: Re-evaluation & Refinement
Unlike 2020’s emotionally charged retrogrades, 2021’s were more about re-evaluation and refinement. It was a year of taking stock, reassessing priorities, and making necessary adjustments. It wasn’t necessarily a turbulent year, but it was a year that required patience, flexibility, and a willingness to let go of what no longer serves you.
It was a year to learn that sometimes, the greatest progress comes from slowing down and revisiting the foundations. A valuable lesson, wouldn’t you agree? 😉✨
